NORMANDY, MO  (KTVI) — Wellston Police said a 16-year-old girl was the latest to fight for her life against a suspected kidnapper.

Investigators said the teen was walking to school along St. Charles Rock Road and Lulu Avenue Tuesday morning.  This is just blocks from Normandy High School.  Officers said a man standing a bus stop grabbed the girl, cursed at her, and told to not to fight back.

The teen apparently didn’t listen.  Police said she fought the man all the way to the yellow center line in the middle of St. Charles Rock Road.  The girl’s mother, who did not want us to release her name, was happy to have her daughter home.  But after hearing recent reports of attempted child abductions all across the metro area, the mom seemed a little speechless, exhausted and confused.

“I’m very disappointed,” she sighed and shook her head.  “It’s crazy out here.  It’s crazy out here.  We have an awful lot of kids on the streets up and down here.  I don’t know.   I just hope it doesn’t happen again.”

Wellston Police Lieutenant Chris Clay was disturbed by reports of the attempt taking place in broad daylight.

“He didn’t care,” Clay said of the suspect.  “He wanted what he wanted, and it didn’t matter if police were around.  And, this is a major road.  It didn’t matter if cars were around.  He just did what he wanted to do.”

The suspect is described as an African-American man with a skinny build and bald head.  He appeared to be in his thirties.  He was last seen wearing a white tank top with blue-jean shorts and a blue visor.  He may have also been carrying a black bag.

On August 21, 2013, Bridgeton Police were looking for a Caucasian suspect with a white tattoo on his arm and wearing a camouflaged shirt or jacket.  A 9-year-old girl said thatsuspect tried to pull her into his white panel van.

On August 17, 2013 in Ellisville, a 10-year-old girl said a woman tried to lure her into her mini-van three separate times in Ellisville. The girl ran home and was not injured.

That same week, Wentzville Police arrested 20-year-old John C. Perry, III.  Officers say he grabbed a 7-year-old girl from her porch on August 18, 2013.  He threw her to the ground when neighbors started running after him.  Perry reportedly told police that voices in his head told him to kill the first person he saw.
