ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO (KTVI) — St. Louis County Police have issued a correction regarding information in Tuesday morning’s fatal house fire. Police now say at this time, only Terry Gapsch has passed away.
County Police say Ms. Georgetta Gapsch’s condition was misreported to authorities in the early hours of the investigation. Gapsch is in critical condition along with her 11-year-old granddaughter.

Authorities say a 13-year-old girl who was in the home woke to find her house was on fire. This happened on St. Simon Court and Tesson Ferry in unincorporated South St. Louis County.
A neighbor says she woke to hear the girl banging on her door and asking for help around 1:30 Tuesday morning. That neighbor called 911 and said the girl’s grandmother, father and 11-year-old sister were still inside. St. Louis County Police said their officers got to the scene first. They tried to kick in the doors and break the windows to rescue the other three people who were still inside.
Police say Terry Gapsch, 38, died. 11-year-old Maci Gapsch is listed in critical condition. Mia Gapsch, 13, was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
Authorities believe the fire started in the basement.
