HARTFORD, IL (KTVI) — The search is on for a possible missing boater who friends say they heard from around 1:30 a.m. Friday.

This all started around 3:00 a.m. near the Chain of Rocks canal.

The “Kevin Michael” tow rig was heading southbound in the Chain of Rocks canal when another tow vessel coming northbound radioed the crew about a vessel stuck to their boat.

They found the fishing boat along with fishing rods, coolers, other items on the boat that were positioned as if someone should have been on the boat, so the crew of the tow called 911.

Friends believe there was someone on the boat and he’s missing.  A friend told FOX 2 he goes fishing with the missing fisherman weekly. The friend also says there are only two life jackets on the boat. Authorities did find two jackets aboard the vessel.

The friend says he heard from the missing boater around 1:30 a.m. and that  man does go boating at night.

He is described as a white male, 6-foot-1 inch tall, blonde hair, blue or green eyes, 230 to 240 pounds.  He was probably wearing contacts but also wears glasses. Was probably wearing shorts and sandals.

St. Louis City , Spanish Lake, Alton searched the river for several hours.   Now the Illinois Department of Natural resources will be the primary search authority.
