EAST ST. LOUIS, IL (KTVI) -  A peaceful protest in the Metro East ended a little early after protestors were asked to leave the McDonald’s restaurant property at 25th and State Street in East St. Louis.

Protestors and supporters showed up around 6 a.m saying they’re on strike and fighting ofr higher pay.  The East St. Louis demonstration was just one of many nationwide demonstrations.

There were no arrests at the McDonalds, but there was a heavy police presence.  The 50 or so protestors crammed into the restaurants dining room Tuesday morning, chanting loudly inside when the East St. Louis police were called.

The protestors say officers politely asked them to leave the dining room and then the parking lot.  The demonstrators did block one of the restaurants driveways until they moved around 7:15 a.m.

The protestors are asking for a minimum wage of $15 an hour.  The National Restaurant Association defends fast-food companies saying that only about 5 percent of all employees in the industry make minimum or starting wage.
